Dinners were also delivered to the homes of those who called a few weeks ago to let GAHOA know they need one or more Thanksgiving dinners.

Dozens of student volunteers from the Academy of American Studies High School were standing behind the serving tables filling the plates of guests who came for a free Thanksgiving meal. The organization has been doing this for more than 40 years, helping the less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day.

George Alexiou, Honorary President and Chair of the Thanksgiving Day Luncheon of the Greek American Homeowners Association, was very pleased with the turnout from the community to help in the center, as well as making deliveries to hundreds of less fortunate Astoria neighbors who appreciated the delivery of a heartwarming, homemade Thanksgiving meal.

Offering support as they always do, the religious leaders of the Greek community in Astoria and other parts of Queens, Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, and Dr. Konstantinos Koutras, Consul General of Greece.

Public Advocate Letitia James came by to talk about improving the quality of life for Astoria residents and to discuss providing affordable housing. “As I travel throughout the City of New York I meet many individuals who are homeless or do not have a meal today. Today is a day to give back, to look back over the year and be grateful for it,” James said.
