Family Day Event Held As Part Of Gun Violence Awareness Month

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz showed her support for the fight against gun violence by attending the Gun Violence Awareness Month Family Day event at the 157th Street playground in Jamaica on June 3. The event was organized by LIFE Camp, which seeks to reduce violence in the community by promoting peaceful actions to create a better, more positive society.  Borough President Katz noted that, thanks to the great efforts of the NYPD working in partnership with local violence prevention organizations, the number of shooting incidents occurring in Queens so far this year is down by about 40 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
